Horse and Leadership Background

Megan’s horse experience reaches back to teen years and includes handling all aspects of daily care, riding mostly English hunter/jumper, and dressage styles, doing some showing and exercising others’ horses. After some years away, she returned to horses in 2015 by volunteering on horse rescues and riding. Through clinics, self-study, and practice, she has built her skills in groundwork with horses as a tool for building their trust and confidence, and teaching new behaviors or managing difficult behaviors by building a new framework of communication with the horse.

Megan has over 20 years of experience in experiential education, including senior leadership roles in schools such as Outward Bound and residential environmental education centers. She has worked with corporate executives to youth at risk. In 2017, she received training from the Equine Experiential Education Association (E3A) to focus on involving horses in individual and team development programs for people through equine assisted learning (EAL). Megan had noticed that rescue horses who have chronic issues preventing physical work often still desire to have a “job” and would be a great asset to programs involving people.

Inspiration and Body Work Training

Having witnessed the benefits horses gained from visits from equine bodyworkers Megan jumped at the opportunity to join a Masterson Method (mastersonmethod.com) workshop and discovered her gift in that realm: a natural ability to tune into horses’ communications and to provide relaxation and healing. That was the starting point for the journey to become an equine bodyworker.  Megan completed certification in Structural Integration through the Equine Institute (equineinstitute.org). This program is unique in that it is co-taught by a veterinarian, so students learn a vet’s perspective on health issues and on how to best work form collaboration between vet and body worker.

Megan offers equine body work, equine assisted learning programming, and horsemanship consultations with a heart-centered and task-oriented approach. She is available to listen to horses and to you to help us all improve performance and quality of life by addressing pain or limitations that may be in the path.
